Types of Hair Drug Testing

• Overview Analysis
• Segmented Analysis

Overview Analysis: For drug consumption, the episodes of drug use get averaged for the time being tested. Depending upon the hair length, this data can determine the drug use over that period. For example, a 3 cm hair is used to determine drug use within three months. A six-month overview could also be used to provide two results: one for the first three months and the latter three months. 

Segmented Analysis: By segmenting head hair samples into monthly 1 cm sections, a month-by-month profile of drug use can be attained to provide a detailed historical profile of a person's drug exposure.

If hair drug testing was to cover six months, a month-by-month analysis would provide six separate results for each month. A segmented analysis is especially useful if you need to get a trend in drug use, such as to see a decrease or increase in drug use over time or to highlight periodic use.
